Trip Overview
On the less-traveled Lemosho Route, discover the captivating vistas of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. Starting from the remote western side of the mountain, the route offers a panoramic journey that takes you through a diversity of ecosystems – from verdant rainforests to stark alpine deserts, culminating in the icy summit.
The Lemosho Route allows for a gradual acclimatization, offering excellent success rates. Over 8 days, your spirit will be awakened as you journey to the “Roof of Africa,” leaving you with indelible memories and a great sense of achievement.
Day by Day
After a drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate, the trek begins through the lush rainforest to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp. The trek is approximately 6km, taking about 3-4 hours.
Exiting the rainforest, we enter the heather and moorland zone. The 8km trek to Shira 1 Camp offers breathtaking views of the Shira Plateau and Mount Meru. Trekking time is approximately 5-6 hours.
Day three involves a gentle trek across the Shira Plateau towards Shira 2 Camp. The 10km trek takes about 3-4 hours, providing ample time for acclimatization.
Climbing towards Lava Tower (4,600m) before descending to Barranco Camp, this is the first challenging day and key for acclimatization. This 10km journey takes approximately 6-7 hours.
Tackle the Great Barranco Wall to Karanga Camp. This shorter 5km trek takes about 4-5 hours and offers beautiful views of the southern ice fields.
A 4km trek over 4-5 hours takes you to Barafu Camp. Here, you’ll rest and prepare for the midnight start to the summit.
The final ascent begins at midnight, aiming to reach Stella Point by sunrise and Uhuru Peak soon after. After celebrating at the summit, descend to Mweka Camp. The day involves approximately 14km of trekking over 10-14 hours.
The final day is a 10km descent to Mweka Gate. Walking time is approximately 3-4 hours, followed by a drive back to Moshi.

Activities & Transportation
The primary activity on this tour is trekking, with professional guides leading you every step of the way. Transportation from Moshi to the starting point at Londorossi Gate and from Mweka Gate back to Moshi is included, and will be in comfortable, private vehicles.
Accommodation & Meals
Accommodations are provided in high-quality mountain tents. All meals are included and prepared by an experienced mountain cook. Special dietary needs can be accommodated with prior notice.
Distances and trekking times are approximate and can vary based on individual pace and acclimatization. Always remember that on Mount Kilimanjaro, the philosophy is “pole, pole” – “slowly, slowly.” The joy is in the journey, not just the destination.
